Tomato Planting
I have always planted my tomato plants in early enough to reap the harvest by mid spring. I think we all have at one time or another. And while always following the directions of various articles I found a tip that really works. Plant the base slightly deeper, trench out a furrow and lay the rest of the plant on its side in the trench and cover, turning up the last three to four inches with the tip showing. In most cases it helps to flood or pre-soak the plot after its dug. This made for a larger footprint of root mass and strengthened my plant, not to mention a lot more tomatoes. Stronger plants can withstand insect pressure. Mulch over the planted area this will aid in water retention and keep roots cooler during those long hot afternoons.
